HOLIDAY TYPE

VILLA or HOLIDAY HOTEL how to decide when and on how to take your next holiday. With more budget flights now available you have a greater choice of how you travel to your chosen holiday destination. As well as cheap flights you can easily drive to many European locations, a short or longer ferry crossing usually adds to the holiday experience.

WHERE and WHEN

Most Holiday makers seek the sun and with the majority of Britons taking their main holiday during the summer season. However more and more are now taking extra breaks at various other times during the year. Obviously with a holiday in Southern Europe during the summer months you are going to get very hot weather unless you are very unlucky. Spain is still the most popular destination in Europe with all the Costas busy during the school holidays. However it is not as cheap as it once was and a lot of people are now heading to coastal towns of Eastern Europe and Cyprus where both holidays and property values are better.

Bulgaria may be a property hot spot but in the winter it could freeze. It is a similar story for those thinking of visiting or buying in Croatia.  France including it’s Mediterranean coast also cools down rapidly at the end of September.  In common with Spain’s Costa de la Luz the popular and busy summer resorts of the south France appear dead compared to high summer so if you are considering these locations in which to make a property purchase you should first visit the area in the dead of winter.

In Spain the top spots are still the Costa Blanca and the Costa del Sol. These are year round locations both for short breaks and winter Golf Holidays. The climate is a lot milder in the south of Spain but beware the Costa de la Luz as it is on the Atlantic coast and is much colder even in the winter sun

FURTHER A FIELD

FLORIDA The climate in Florida is great and it is now much easier to get a good flight at a reasonable price. This is a very popular destination for people with children as in addition to weather it also has many and varied theme attractions. Although property prices continue to rise, and are probably overpriced in the sunshine state, the favorable exchange rate still makes it an area where Britons are still buying second homes.

CARIBBEAN The best time to have a holiday in the Caribbean, that is from November to June at which time you should enjoy temperature between 20 to 30 degrees.  As a result of direct flights giving access to Antigua and Barbados it is not surprising that these are the most popular for holiday makers and second home buyers alike.

SOUTH AFRICA Taking account of travel time, Cape Town with a winter temperature of between 20 and 30 degrees is the closes place in the southern hemisphere most likely to provide guaranteed sunshine during our winter. Flights to Cape Town take 11 hours an are expensive with no budget flights.  When you are there you will benefit from a good exchange rate which should allow for a relatively cheap holiday.

NEARER TO HOME

PORTUGAL If you are considering a winter holiday or a property purchase in Portugal you must remember if you intend visiting in the winter that similar to the Costa de la Luz although the sun may shine but it could be cold.  Having said that Portugal’s warmest winter spot is the Algarve which can have warm days in the winter. however the long sandy beaches will not be that warm. The best place to be is probably the Golf Course. There are frequent budget flights to Faro Airport from a number of UK airports. Property values are higher in the area west of Faro with prices dropping off as you go east. The western Algarve is less developed.

FRANCE The Cote d’Azur is is well known for a moderate and dry winter climate although it has also been known to snow in the winter. The year round destinations are Nice, Cannes and Monaco, which have a full range of restaurants and shops open as usual. Some of the smaller resorts are less busy and do not offer the same attractions as in summer.

SPAIN The coast of Spain from Valencia to Gibraltar is generally warmer than that of France and Portugal. Especially the Costa del Sol which is the warmest area of Spain in winter.  Even here the temperature starts to drop around 4pm but there are also some very warm day and it s excellent Golfing weather. Getting to the Costa del Sol is fairly inexpensive as the are cheap flights with the budget airlines to Malaga Airport from almost every uk airport. There are as many as 30 flights a day from Malaga Airport to the UK, so the he chances are that there is a flight from your local airport
